Episode 4 – The Dreamer and The Designer
...today we just want to keep telling you about who we are as a team and who we are as people.
Dana: Hi! Welcome to the Dreamer and the Designer. I’m Dana, the Dreamer.
Chris: …and I’m Chris, the designer.
Dana: …and today we just want to keep telling you about who we are as a team and who we are as people. As we introduce ourselves to you, we also want to be talking to you! So, feel free to comment, feel free to direct message us, whatever feels comfortable but we’d love to hear from you. So, my question today Chris for you is why do you choose to work from home?
Chris: Yeah that’s something that I sometimes take for granted to be honest I’ve been working from home for about 5 years. And working in web design allows me to do that because I can work remote in my portfolio from anywhere. So, flexibility of schedule is huge so if I have a huge workload, I can wake up at 4am and I can just start in on it and by the time 9am rolls around I have put in a half days work. The flip side to that and the weather is completely gorgeous, I can take a bike ride with the family
Dana: Impromptu bike rides! They’re the best…
Chris: …put the away message up. Another huge thing is the commute… I don’t have to drive. I’ve had jobs where I had to commute a half hour each way and with horrible traffic it ended up taking an hour so… cutting that out of my life has been very pleasant.
Dana: I remember when you were commuting 40 minutes to and from… and that’s just draining, who needs it?
Chris: So my question for you is: If you had to choose– would you daydream or night dream?
Dana: Hands down… I mean there’s something to be said about having a great dream at night but daydreams are my jam! They’ve always been and I think it’s because the possibilities are endless. I find myself shifting into visions of what I want to see and I allow myself sometimes to stay there. Does anyone else do that?
Chris: Is it a control aspect– like you can guide your daydreams a little better?
Dana: I think partially, I think I remember when I was a child when I’d have scary night dreams my mom would tell me– wake up and think of a not scary ending. With daydreams there’s none of that, like you can really like be like oh wouldn’t it be cool if this happened and then think through the possibilities of that and then come to a conclusion or end so it really is a catalyst for vision for me sometimes especially for creative ideas or concepts that we’re not really sure what the ending is. So as we continue, of course you’re going to learn more about who we are but our hope for future episodes are to be giving tips for customers of web developers is how to prepare for your consult session, the things you should think about when thinking about developing a website. I also am hoping that we can talk about what Chris and I are facing in challenges/strengths in communication with each other as we’re building the business together and or how it feels sometimes to be this work from home family and how we balance it all and keep ourselves sane. So those are some of the things I’m hoping to cover. Chris what do you want to talk about?
Chris: Well I think you pretty much took everything that I wanted to say, but the thing that I’m looking forward to is interacting. If you have questions that is what we are hoping to cover in future episodes. Always provide feedback if we can do something better even in the production of these videos, just let us know. I’m really looking forward to letting you in on the behind the scenes part of our company.
Dana: yessss! This is a happy “yes”. Thank you for tuning in. We really appreciate you following us. Follow, subscribe, check us out, click all the buttons. Until next time, have a great day!
